Teen Invisalign®in Philadelphia, PA

The teen years are when a lot of our patients start their orthodontic treatments, but many are concerned with the way they will look with metal braces. Board-certified orthodontist Dr. Sam Kadan offers Teen Invisalign® as an alternative to traditional metal braces to help teenagers in the Bucks County and Philadelphia area feel more confident about improving their smiles.

What is Teen Invisalign®?

Teen Invisalign® is an advanced orthodontic option that uses clear aligners instead of brackets and wires. The aligners fit onto the teeth similar to a mouth guard or teeth whitening tray. Your teenager gets a series of aligners, each of which applies a progressive amount of pressure on the teeth, similar to how traditional braces move the teeth into a proper position. The aligner is worn at least 22 hours each day and can be removed for eating, brushing and flossing. Every two weeks your teenager changes to the next aligner in the series.

What Can I Expect From Invisalign® Teen?

Treatment with Invisalign® Teen involves:

  • Wearing each aligner for at least 22 hours each day
  • Using a new aligner every 10 to 14 days
  • Removing the aligner to eat, drink, brush and floss
  • Seeing Dr. Kadan for follow-up appointments every eight to 12 weeks

Is Teen Invisalign® Right for Me?

Dr. Kadan recommends Invisalign® to teenagers with moderate to severe orthodontic issues related to:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Improper bite
  • Spaces or gaps between the teeth
  • Overcrowded teeth
  • Protruding teeth

Is Teen Invisalign® as Effective as Traditional Braces?

If your teenager uses the Invisalign® aligners as instructed by Dr. Kadan, you can expect to see the same results as you would with traditional metal braces. Best of all, Invisalign® Teen provides greater comfort and easier oral health when compared to traditional braces.

What are Some of the Practical Advantages of Invisalign® Teen Over Traditional Braces?

You may have spoken with some of your friends about their experiences with metal braces. Chances are they explained the challenges of having brackets and wires on their teeth, especially if they play sports. The good news is that with Invisalign® Teen:

  • You are less likely to experience injuries to your cheeks and lips that are caused by impacts to your mouth and face.
  • If you play wind instruments, Invisalign® will not impede your ability to play at your current level.
  • You can continue to enjoy your favorite foods during your orthodontic treatment.
  • You can use your current techniques for brushing and flossing.

Are There Any Emotional Concerns to Consider?

Having crooked teeth, spaces between the teeth and other orthodontic issues can greatly affect a teenager’s self-confidence. In some cases, wearing metal braces only worsens the self-consciousness. Invisalign® allows teenagers to feel good about straightening their teeth.

Who is Eligible for Teen Invisalign®?

Most teenagers are eligible for using Invisalign® Teen for their orthodontic treatments. As an Invisalign® Elite Provider and board-certified orthodontist, Dr. Kadan is able to assess your teenager’s orthodontic needs and determine if Invisalign® Teen is the right option.

How Long Does Invisalign® Teen Treatment Take?

In most cases, teenagers wear Invisalign® for the same amount of time that they wear traditional metal braces. Treatment times do vary, so we recommend that you meet with Dr. Kadan to discuss your teenager’s individual orthodontic treatment needs.

Does My Teen Have to Wear Invisalign® All the Time?

In order for the Invisalign® aligners to effectively address your teenager’s orthodontic issues, the aligners should be worn between 20 to 22 hours each day. If the aligners are worn for less time, Dr. Kadan may need to extend the overall treatment time or the results may not be optimum.

Each aligner needs to be traded for the next aligner in the series every 10 to 14 days. When the blue indicator on the aligner is completely faded, it is time to put in the new aligner.

What Happens If an Aligner Gets Lost?

Included in the cost for Invisalign® Teen is a maximum of six replacement aligners. Simply contact our office and we will make arrangements to get a replacement aligner. You should notify us right away because not wearing the aligners for even a short period of time will greatly impact the outcomes of treatment.

How Much Time Will Be Spent Visiting the Orthodontist?

When compared to metal braces, Invisalign® Teen requires fewer follow-up visits with Dr. Kadan. In order for metal braces to work, patients need to attend visits to adjust the tension on the wires. This is not necessary with Teen Invisalign®. The follow-up appointments are only needed to check on the progress and address any concerns that arise.

What to Expect During Your Consultation

Dr. Kadan uses the consultation as the time to take X-rays and perform an evaluation of your teeth, jaw alignment, oral health and bite alignment. Based on the findings of the evaluation, he will recommend a treatment plan. If you decide that the cost of Invisalign® fits within your budget, Dr. Kadan makes a three-dimensional model of your teeth using the iTero® Element™ system. The system is used in lieu of molds to create more accurate aligners. Our patients find the process much more comfortable than traditional molds, and Dr. Kadan gets the information he needs almost instantaneously.
