If you want to learn more about Invisalign®, review our frequently asked questions (FAQ), and contact us with any other questions.
What is Invisalign®?
Two of the biggest drawbacks of traditional metal braces are appearance and comfort. Invisalign® was developed to address these two barriers so that more teens and adults felt comfortable with seeking orthodontic treatment. The Invisalign® system uses a series of clear, smooth aligners that straighten your teeth and correct your bite. As an Invisalign® Elite Provider, Dr. Kadan recommends the clear aligners to patients who have the most common orthodontic issues, such as crooked teeth, overcrowding, and issues related to their bite pattern.
Will Other People Be Able to See My Invisalign® Aligners?
The Invisalign® aligners are made of clear plastic that is difficult to see except upon very close inspection. In most day-to-day interactions, people will not see your aligners. For the first few days that you wear your first aligner, you may have some minor difficulty speaking, and people may notice the change in your speech pattern. After a few days, though, you will adjust to wearing the aligner and your normal speech pattern will return.
How Does Invisalign® Straighten Teeth?
Invisalign® works the same way as traditional metal braces. The aligners fit to your teeth in a way that applies a small amount of pressure that gently pushes on your teeth. The pressure moves the teeth into a new, healthier and more attractive position. Over a two-week period, the teeth move into a new position. The process of moving the teeth is repeated with each new aligner.
Can Invisalign® Aligners Be Removed During Treatment?
For best results in the expected treatment timeline, you should wear your Invisalign® aligners for 22 hours each day. You can remove them to eat, brush and floss, but should replace them shortly after these activities. If you do not wear the clear aligners for at least 22 hours each day, Dr. Kadan may recommend an extended orthodontic treatment plan.
Will Invisalign® Affect My Speech?
You may have a mild lisp when you first wear the clear Invisalign® aligner. The lisp will disappear once you become accustomed to wearing the aligner.
Can I Drink Beverages When Wearing My Invisalign® Aligners?
We recommend that you only drink cold water while wearing your aligners. If you want to drink other types of beverages, you can remove the aligners or use a straw. The key consideration is that room temperature and warm beverages may distort the shape of the aligners.
How Do I Clean My Invisalign® Aligners?
Cleaning your Invisalign® aligners fits well into your current oral hygiene schedule. Use a soft toothbrush and regular toothpaste to clean the aligners. Make sure to rinse them completely after cleaning.
How Long Will My Invisalign® Treatment Take?
The average treatment time with Invisalign® is 12 months, but each patient’s orthodontic needs are different. During your consultation, Dr. Kadan will explain the length of your treatment with Invisalign® clear aligners. Adult treatment times are influenced by the type of correction needed, and treatment times for teenagers are determined based on the development of the adult teeth.

What to Expect During Your Consultation
Dr. Kadan uses the consultation as the time to take X-rays and perform an evaluation of your teeth, jaw alignment, oral health and bite alignment. Based on the findings of the evaluation, he will recommend a treatment plan. If you decide that the cost of Invisalign® fits within your budget, Dr. Kadan will use the iTero® Element™ system to make a model of your teeth that is used to form the clear aligners.
